ST. ELMO FIRE
Motorists Startled By Rare Sight.
Press Association—Copyright. H amilton, Last Night.
A ball of fire irridiscent in colour and shimmering like a miniature sun was the startling phenomenon seen by a party of Hamilton motorists at Newstead yesterday. The motorists were passing a grove of pines when one of the passengers noticed the phenomenon hovering around a tru’nk some 20 feet from the ground. They watched spellbound for some seconds until the ball rose slowly about 10 feet and then vanished into thin air like a banshee conjured up by the magician. The motorists’ Impressions were far from discounted by scientific authorities who were approached today for an explanation, and the opinion was expressed that the spectacle was an example of the rare phenomenon known as St. Elmo’s fire.
