LLOYD GEORGE AGAIN
UNWISE MESSAGE TO DUKE OF WINDSOR. Constituents Object To Attitude Of Member. Press Association—Copyright. London, January 11. The Daily Herald says Mr Lloyd George is again at loggerheads with his constituents because of the message he sent to the Duke of Windsor, which has caused such dissension that the North Wales Liberal Federation, of which Mr. Lloyd George is president, is meet, ing in an attempt to patch up the quarrel.
An official says: “We consider the message a most unwise thing. The Liberals have not forgotten his praise of Hitler. This second utterance has greatly complicated matters.”
In his message to the Duke of Windsor, Mr. Lloyd George said: “Best Christmas greetings from an old Minister of the Crown who holds you in high esteem, will ever regard you with, deeply loyal affection, deplores the shabby find stupid treatment accorded you, resents the mean, unchivalrous attacks upon you, and regrets the loss to the Empire of a monarch who sympathised with his lowliest subjects.”
In the course of an interview upon his return from Germany in September, Mr. Lloyd George said: “It is a great misfortune that European democracies are not producing great leaders. Dictators are acting while democratic leaders are fumbling. I am convinced that a strong executive in Britain could accomplish much more than Herr Hitler in Germany, because we have greater financial resources and Parliament would respond to a strong executive.”
