ALLEGED SHOOTING.
Sensational Story Of Local Arrest. Accounts of a sensational arrest In the Whangamomona backcountry at the week-end were current to-day, but at the moment official confirmation is lacking. From inquiries made by the “Central Press” it appears that the incident occurred when Detective P. Kearney of New Plymouth, who was accompanied by Consable Johnston of Whangamomona proceeded to a farm property to make an arrest. It is alleged that the wanted man, who was subsequently apprehended, secured a gun and fired a shot at the detective. Stating that he had not yet received the reports of his officers, the Inspector of Police at New Plymouth informed the “Central Press” thia afternoon that he was not in a position to give any information.
