BRITAIN DETERMINED TO SAFEGUARD HER SHIPPING
VIEWS SPANISH SITUATION SERIOUSLY. PROTESTS TO FRANCO WERE WARNING TO ALL FOREIGN AUTHORITIES. (Press Association—Copyright.) Received Noon. LONDON, January 5. The diplomatic correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that Mr. Anthony Eden returned to London last night and will consult his Cabinet colleagues to-day regarding the latest developments in the Spanish situation, which the Government views seriously, especially the insurgent interference with British shipping. Yesterday's protests to General Franco regarding the molestation of the steamers Blackhill and Etrib were intended as a warning to all foreign authorities that Britain is determined to maintain the safety of her merchant shipping lawfully engaged about the Spanish coast, /or which purpose the British naval forces in those waters are considered more than sufficient.
