AUSTRALIA'S BIG SCORE

EXCITING CRICKET. MELBOURNE TEST. Bradman Shows Return To Old Form. * ' = Press Association —Copyright. Melbourne, January 5. . A great partnership for 346, a record for the sixth wicket, by Bradman and Fingfeton, was the main feature of play in the third test match i between England and Australia today, when Australia advanced its second innings score of 194 for five wickets to 500 for six. Fingleton macfe 136 and Bradman at stumps had f made 248 not out. The wicket was in excellent condition, states J. B. Hobbs in his copyright comment, being easy paced with the ball comiilg through at a nice height and with no kickers. It must have been a welcome relief to the batsmen after some of their recent experiences.' No Chances Taken. Tho two batsmen never let up the whole time. Even after they had achieved a JOO partnership they still took no chajjces. Their concentration was remarkable. ** Anyone com ing on the ground late in the afternoon not knowing the score would have thought a great fight for a first innings lead was in progress. Just after tea When in one over Verity twice beat Bradman he still did not depart from the even tenor of his way. England's fielding was very good. Robins saved many-runs. What made me admire them more was that, aparu-from. the batsmen staying there, they had such a heart-breaking wicket bn which to bowk Rain had taken absolutely all the life out of it. I do not see what Allen could have done to improve- the situation. It would have needed more than a human captain to have dislodged this pair to-day. As far as ram concerned the tension is relieved. I had written this down as a victory for Australia a long time ago. Details are:
