Awatea Makes Fastest Tasman Trip. Yet another speed record for the passage across the Tasman. Sea between • Sydney and Wellington was set up by the Union Company’s express liner Awatea when she passed by Pencarrow Head yesterday morning. The ship made the crossing from Sydney Heads in 57 hours To minutes, at an average speed of 21.62 knots, which is the fastest run yet made by the Awatea across the Tasman Sea. On her previous crossing fi’oni Sydney the Awatea made the run in 58 hours 22 minutes, which was 51 minutes better than her record of 59 hours 13 minutes made at the end of November.
