N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. Finals Being Played To-day At Timaru. Press Association —Copyright. Timaru ,To-day. To-day should see the completion of all sections of the National Tennis Championships. The wither is overcast but warm. A light rain fell during the night and a fitful drizzle was falling this morning, but it does not look as though there will.be sufficient rain to upset the day’s programme. The courts have been subjected to hard use, but they are still playing exceptionally well. The early games this morning comprise the semi-finals of the Mixed Doubles and the Men’s Plate. The first final .that in the Women’s Doubles, does not commence till noon, and the remaining finals are all set down for this afternoon. Bedford has come into favour for the Men’s Singles title, chiefly because of the number of his previous victories over Coombe, but the latter has only to produce yesterdays form to make the match a brilliant one. Miss Nicholls is favoured for the womens’ title, but here again an upset may be seen though Miss N. Beverley had a lapse from form yesterday afternoon. Results Of To-day’s Play. MIXED DOUBLES. Semi-finals. D. C. Coombe and Miss D. M. Nicholls beat A. R. Cant and Miss G. Gould, 6-2, 7-5. F. A. Roussell and Miss I. Poole beat J. Gunn and Miss M. Beverley, 9-7, 2-6, 11-9.
