JAPANESE REPLY. Non-Fortification Of Pacific • Areas. Press Association—Copyright. (Received 11.45 a.m.) Tokio, January 4. The Ddmei News Agency announced from authoritative quarters that if the non-fortification of Pacific areas was to be discussed at all the Government would insist that it must be approached from an entirely new basis. The announcement recalls that the British Government in December, requested Japan to expedite her reply regarding the suggested discussions on the continuation of the rion-forti-fication claifse after the lapse of the Washington Treaty.
