BOYCOTTING CORONATION FUNCTIONS
RESOLUTION OF INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS INTENTION TO REPEAT UNFRIENDLY DEMONSTRATION OF 1921. NOT THOUGHT TO BE PARTICULARLY SERIOUS. (Press Association—Copyright.) Received Noon. BOMBAY, December 28. The Indian National Congress passed a resolution calling for a complete boycott of all Coronation functions in India, with the intention of repeating the demonstration of 1921, when the Prince of Wales arrived on his Indian tour. The resolution is not regarded seriously in most quarters, for the reference to 1921 is partciulalrly inappropriate, as even Gandhi confessed that his activities on that occasion, which produced bloodshed in Bombay, were an "Himalayan blunder." It is generally considered that the King’s visit to the Coronation Durbar will be welcomed by the whole country. Only a few hundred Congress politicians will carry out the terms of the resolution in an unobtrusive manner, without unfriendly demonstrations.
