TEST VICTORY ACCLAIMED
PRESS JUBILANT HUGE STREAMERS. “Our Test Men’s Merry Christmas.” Press Association —'Copyright. (Received 11.30 a.m.) London, December 22. The Test victory heads the front pages of all evening newspapers. Under page-wide streamers, the Star’s streamer reads: “Our Test Men’s Merry Christmas.’ The Evening News devotes six columns to a description by pictorial and verbal comment. A cartoon captioned “The Circus Comes To Town,” depicts Allen in uniform as a ringmaster leading two kangaroos, labelled “Sydney” and “Brisbane,” behind the Lion beating a drum. Carson, in the Evening News, says: “The weather gave some assistance, but it cannot be blamed to any extent for the score. If the Australian batsmen are so apprehensive of a drop of rain, all batting science disappears when any is about. I am glad to record the excellent feeling of the Sydney crowd. They were unwilling to agree that we had the better luck of the game. Bradman is still good, but not so unbeatable as of old. O’Reilly is not the danger he has been represented if he is watched properly. Oldfield is as good as ever; that is, he is still the best wicketkeeper in cricket.
A HUMAN TRAGEDY. O Clear Alternative Which Faced Ex-King. The Bishop of. Bradford, wri’li. in the Diocesan Messenger, refers to bhe clear and stark alternative which faced King Edward. He describes his choice as a human tragedy which all will regret. “It is silly misrepresentation to say that 1 a,m painting the churches this year red, white and blue.”
