STRATFORD VICTORY.

SENIOR A MATCH.

Good Recovery From Opening Failure.

In spite of a disastrous opening, the first two wickets falling for no runs, Stratford ’A team compiled an innings score of 89 in the senior cricket match against Power Board, ai Hawera, and dismissed the home side with a margin of 22. Power Board put Stratford in again in a desperate attempt to make 'up lee-way on the secojnd innings, but the visitors played out time comfortably with 101 for six wickets. As indicated by’ the scores the wicket favoured the bowlers but in spite of this Power Board opened auspiciously and with 43 at the fall of the first wicket seemed to have the match well in hand. The Stratford bowlers, McKenzie and Beere, mastered the situation from then on, however, and when the sixth wicket fell the score was only 51. Crotty, Power Board’s long range hitter went, in to stop the rot but fell victim to a spectacular catch in the outfield, brought off by Adlam. To take the ball, which was skied; with a terrific hit and descending near the boundary Adlam had to reach back over his head. The credit of the second Stratford innings goes to McKenzie who played a confident innings and passed his half-century with three to spare. His score included two sixes and eight fours. Beere’s bowling figures of six wickets for 10 runs was easily the best bowling performance. Details are:
