MORTGAGE DEBT

Applications For Relief Under New Act. No general statistical returns of applications for financial relief under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act have yell been received in Wellington, but there are indications of a fairly -substantial request for farm and property mortgage adjustment. The Attorney-General, Hon. H. G. R. Mason, who is responsible for the administration of the new Act said yesterday that the only returns of applications available so far were from the Christchurch district. In that centre there were approximately 6000 applications for mortgage adjustment. This in itself gave an indication of the ultimate aggregate for the whole Dominion. The Minister emphasised that, the closing date for * giving notice to guarantors was December 31 this year and the closing date for making applications for adjustments was January 31, 1937. Intending appliM cations should not lose time in preparing their applications for consideration by the adjustment, commissions, which had been se't up recently by the Government. Mr. Mason mentioned that the Court of Review had been sitting in Wellington for the past three weeks dealing with urgent cases.
