TROUBLE IN CHINAREVOLT OF TROOPS. Martial Law Proclaimed In Some Cities. Press Association —Copyright. Nanking. December 14. Martial law has been proclaimed at Nanking, Hankow and other cities as a. result of the revolt of troops commanded by General Chang Suechliang, who have detained Marshal Chiang Kai-shek. Fighting is report ed. on the Lunghai railway, where Nanking troops are attacking the rebels. The Government, after a conference lasting all night, issued a manifesto denouncing General Chang Seuh-liang as aHraitor, relieved him of the Shensi command and ordered his troops to ally themselves with the Central Government.

General Chang Seuh-liang has massed a strong force in the TungKwan Pass between Shensi and Honan. It is reported from Hupeh that the mutineers imprisoned all Marshal Chang Kai-shek’s entourage, including five generals. A message received this morning says that a hundred thousand Chinese at Shanghai signed a petition against further yielding to Japanese agression and demanding the Government immediately to mobolise the resources of the nation for defence and to insist on the abrogation of the agreements establishing the demilitarised zones at Shanghai and around the Great Wali. The cessation of unauthorised Japanese flights over Chinese territory and assurances that 'the Japanese will cease illegal military movements in China are further demanded. A later message from Peking quotes an unconfirmed report stating that a counter revolt resulted in the release of Chiang Kai Shek and the arrest of Changh Sue Liang.
