TARANAKI CRICKET IN PERFECT WEATHER

HIGH SCHOOL BOY’S SENSATIONAL FEAT. TEN WICKETS FOR EIGHT IN SENIOR MATCH. STRATFORD NARROWLY DEFEAT VISITING MANAIA TEAM. Perfect cricket weather prevailed throughout Taranaki and a number of striking performances were registered. M. P. Donnelly, playing for New Plymouth High School in the senior A match against New Plymouth Old Boys, created a sensation by taking all ten wickets for eight runs. Six of his victims were clean bowled, and the remaining four succumbed to l.b.w. decisions. Added to this, he played the innings of the match, scoring 47 berfore he was himself dismissed l.b.w. Old Boys innings total was 41 and High School’s 152. In the southern division Strat ford A triumphed over Manaia in a close game, the final score being 161 to 137. Hawera and Hawera Old Boys maintained th*eir unbeaten records, defeating Kaponga and Patea respectively.

STRATFORD COLLAPSE Hawera High School Receives Outright Win. Playing Hawera High School at Hawera on Saturday Stratford B team was defeated by the home team who secured an outright win. The visitors were unable to withstand the second innings attack of the Hawera bowlers. G. Graham and Bernard, and were dismissed for a total of 35 runs. Stratford made 84 in the first innings, Pollard 44 and McDougall 22 doing the bulk of the work. Bernard look eight wickets for 26 runs. High School replied with a level 100, two men again making most of the runs, G.' Graham 30 and Anderson 49. Stratford made only 35 in the second innings, Bernard taking five for 14 and G. Graham five for 16. Left with 20 to make, High School scored the runs without the loss of a wicket and went on to make 94 for two wickets, Hudson 36 retired, G. Graham 17 and Knightbridge 34 not out.

Opunake Defeats Stratford High School In Opunake’s score of 64 against Stratford High School Enell (10) was the only batsman to reach double figures, although extras amounted to 20. Ryburn took four wickets for 16, Anderson .three for 11 and Floyd three for 11. was at sea on the strange type of wicket and was dismissed for 53 (Ryburn 15), Floyd 11), Griffin taking four wickets for 12 runs and Snell six for 11. Hawera Old Boys defeated Stratford by 159 runs .to 110, in the South Taranaki senior cricket match at Hawera yesterday. The match had been postponed from earlier in the season.
