Good Progress With Stratford Scheme. Favoured by fine weather the group shearing, conducted at Stratford by Messrs Newton King, which commenced on Monday is making fast progress and it is hoped to have the work completed by the end of the week.

The rise in wool prices and the appeal which the convenience and economy of this scheme makes to sheep owners in the Stratford area has caused a steady increase in the number of sheep being sent in. This year the total number will Im about 1600, this being about three times Hie number shorn when the scheme was started .three years ago. The purpose of the scheme is to cater for (lie small sheep owner in the district, giving them the opportunity to got their shearing done on the same economical basis that is possible on the larger farms. This year .(ho sheep have been sent in from the farms up to eight miles from Stratford and most, of the sheep grazed on paddocks in the town itself are- included. A.L their shed the firm have two first class shearers working. The fleece wools are first classed and. the oddments arc scut to the store for regrading prior to being sent io the Wanganui sale.
