SCHOOL TO BE CLOSED

PUKENGAHU DECISION Consolidation With Stratford Favoured. The closing of the Pukengahu School under a scheme of consolidation centred at Stratford was favoured by' a meeting of 20 householders at Pukengahu on Wednesday night. Mr. D. G. McGuinness presided. Mr J. McAllister, a Taranaki Education Board member, and Mr H. W. Insull, were also present. Mr. McAllister reviewed the advantages of consolidation. In reply to a question Mr. Insull said that in the event of consolidation secondary pupils could also travel by the bus to Stratford at no cost to parents. Concerning the insurance of children while travelling on a bus, Mr. Insull said, the education board did not insure, the risk being borne by the department. In the event of the school being closed -tho buildings would not be removed for some time. The following resolution was moved by Mr. McGuinness; That this public, meeting of householders at Pukengahu is unanimously of the opinion that, it is in the interests of chldren that the school be closed and they can be taken to Stratford. The motion was seconded by Mr. F. Leonard and was carried unanimously'.
