ACCLIMATISATION WORK

Stratford Society To Carry Inspection. Inspection of the railway quarry' at the top end of York Road for the purpose of seeing if it is possible to ' have anything done there which will overcome the disability at present existing of large quantities of gravel and sand being brought down by- the Wanganui River every flood was considered by the Stratford Acclimatisation Society last night. It is hoped to be able to make a report at the next meeting. It was reported that within the past two weeks a fish of 10> pounds had been caught in the Kafhouri stream and the council regretted that on account of a misunderstanding of the position, the fish was not eligible for the competition. The visiting committee to the trout hatcheries at Durham Road reported having made an “inspection during the month and found that the young .fish were in first class condition and progressing well. The visiting committee appointed for the current month were Messrs Eason and Richardson. Present were: Messrs E. G. Joyes (in the chair),, E. H. Eason, W. J. Walsh, G. M. Richardson, J. Petrie, E. C. Worthington, C. Atkinson and W. J. Hughes.
