RIVER CARNIVAL.
Novelty For Stratford Next Saturday. The holding of a river carnival at Windsor Park next Saturday will be a novelty at Strafford. The reason for the gala day, for which a most attractive programme has been arranged, is to raise funds for further beautifying work on an area east of ‘Windsor' Park towards ■the observatory. • Such work as drain? ing, clearing and grassing requires a fairly heavy outlay, and the society hopes for • Stratford’s support to enable it to carry on the good work. In beautifying the river-bank the society has in mind ’ Hamilton and Christchurch,, where the Waikato and Avon rivers have been preserved for the people. Judging by the good work that has been done at Windsor Park, the society should be able to make the Patejj* river area a reserve of great value to the town in the future. The society, a group-of public-spirited citizens, carries on its work with a small privately guaranteed income. / The programme for next Saturday includes boomerang bowls, a shooting gallery, maypole and Highland dancing, tugs-of-war, a wading race, a mock trial, croquet, swimming club and primary school river events, and items by the brass and pipe bands.
