An anti-cyclone is passing eastward off northern New Zealand, while a rather deep westerly depression is approaching across the South Tasman Sea. The forecast is for moderate but freshening north-westerly winds, backing later to westerlies, or in places temporarily to south-west. The weather will be cloudy to overcast and some rain probable; temperatures mild; seas moderate but rising.
