ATHLETICS.
(BY SHOTPUT.) Thu two Cuff brothers seem to be setting an example of keenness 'to the other runners of the Stratford Athletic Club and must now be well ahead on points for the various trophies for the season. At the meeting at Eltham on Tuesday night R Cuff again won the 880yds. run and the 100yds. sprint. C. Cuff secured a second in the hundred and a third in the 880. Both boys also demonstrated that they are capable of producing a creditable performance with the javelin, and R. Cuff’s actual .throw was 120 ft. and his brother’s, 116 ft. L. Jackson, in his firs't year out of high school, is showing promise of developing into a better than average middle distance runner. He ran well .at Eltham this week and finished third in (the 880. - .Au invitation to take a 'team of up
to 20 athletes to Marton on 'the 19th. of this month has been received. The club is unable 'to take a team away on this date, but it. is hoped to be able to arrange with the Marton club -’or a visit there during January, and for a return visit of Mabton athletes to Stratford. An invitation to the New Plymouth club to bring a team to S'iratford has been sent. If this is acepted some excellent competitions should result ,as, although the New Plymouth club has the advantage on the track, Stratford, with S. Lay, N. Kofoed, W. Ireland, and F. Adlam, is very strong in field events. Cyclists should be about even with perhaps a slight advantage in Stratford's favour.
