CRICKET AT BRISBANE

Exciting Finish T& M.C.C. Game. Press Associat ion—Copy right. Brisbane, December 1. There was an exciting finish to the cricket match between England and Queensland, which was drawn, Queensland’s last pair playing out time, says J. B. Hobbs in special comment for the Press Association. Twenty-eight runs behind on the first innings, England had made 52S for eight wickets in the second at luncheon, when a declaration was made. Queensland lost nine wickets for 227 runs in the second innings. With 40 minutes to go and three wickets left, Ames missed stumping Amos, the ball sticking in the top of the wicket-keepers’ pad. The pitch was more favourable to the slow than to the fast bowlers. Robins, Verity and Wyeth found it responded io spin. Baker and Amos held the fort for 55 minutes, Baker comple ting 50

runs in 101 minutes. K Hammond bowled a soft over to hurry the 200 runs up, and the new ball was taken with IS minutes left by Fames and Voce. With the last ball of his over Fames had Amos well caught at slip by Fagg. Amusement was caused by -a field of five slips and two short legs behind the wicket, a woman shouting to the batsman, “Look behind you!” With eight minutes to go, Fames in his next over sent out JBaker leg before. He played a great innings for 63, and it was entirely due to him that Queensland saved the day. Fames put in all he knew in every ball of the last over, but he failed to take the necessary wicket.
