GOVERNOR’S THEFT.

American Politician Assists Embezzler Press Association —'Copyright. New York, Nov. 30. C. M. Smith, Governor of Vermont, who is also president of the Rutland Marble Savings Bank, was arrested to-day and charged with concealing bank thefts. His arrest followed the conviction of a book-keeper, John Cocklin, a war veteran, for the embezzlement of £25,000 over a period of nine years. Cocklin skated at the trial that Smith promised the shortage would never be known.
