RIFLE SHOOTING
New Club Formed At Ngaere.
A new rifle club to be called the Ngaere Defence Rifle Club was formed at Ngaere as the result of a meeting promoted by the Ngaere branch of the Farmers’ Union. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. T. Scott; vicepresidents, Messrs R. McGarrigle and A. Coleman; secretary, Mr J. Taylor; treasurer, Mr L. Harrison. With the addition of Messrs R. Walker and A. Slattery the foregoing officers will form the committee.
Captain J. N. Henry, area defence officer at Hawera, explained the procedure to be follow’eu' and the regulations governing a rifle club. He approved of the site of 'the proposed range and said the club would have to undertake the work of forming the range and making targets. Mr Harrison said it would cost about £5O to eqqip a range, but Mr Scott considered the amount would be less if a certain proportion of the work were done by voluntary labour. The subscription was fixed at 10s for first year membership, and nearly the requisite number of members signed applications. Captain Henry gave his assurance that he would assist the new club as much as possible.
