SHIPS AND SEA.

Danger Of Not Having Certified Engineer. Press Association—Copyright. Auckland, Last Night. A recommendation that no ship should be allowed to put to sea, even within home trade limits, without a certificated master or certificated engineer approved by the Minister of Marine is to be made to the Minister by the Marine Court of Inquiry which has been silting to investigate the foundering of the auxiliary scow Tamahae in the Hauraki Gulf on September 25. The inquiry was concluded to-day, and the decision in writing is to be forwarded to the Minister i in view of the importance of the issues I involved. [ "We think it very wrong that this ship should have been taken to sea with a totally inexperienced 'and incapable engineer,” said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., who presided, before the parties addressed the court. “I refer, of course, to his experience as a navigator and not afe‘ art 'engiheeb. It would seem that some provisions of the Shipping and Seamen. Act, are most undesirable.” After the addresses of counsel had been given the court reserved its decision.
