WAR AND PEACE

World Conference Suggested Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, To-day. After a brief discussion of the question of war, the Methodist Synod of the Wellington district yesterday carried the following motion: "Thisi synod emphatically denies the inevitability of war. Believing that war is incompatible with the spirit of religion, and inconsistent with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, we feel that a way nipst be found to bring under impartial survey 'the economic grievances and other inequalities out of which the anxieties and fears.- of nations grow, and which account in large measure for the fateful race in armaments.

“We urge that the League of Nations, acting in conjunction with those Stales not included in its membership, should convene, after due preparation, but at the earliest practicable date, a world conference on these subjects, open to all States. The subjects with tvhich such a conference should deal would necessarily include protective tariffs and financial obstacles to world trade, inability to obtain raw- materials, and an outlet for excess population, and the future administration of the colonial possessions and mandated territories.”
