The return for November is not yet published, but it will include the amount of £3771 18s. 6d., elsewhere receded as the proceeds of a sale by auction on the 30th ult, Although' the expenses of the province are heavy— heavier perhaps than they might be—a large proportion of the amounts we have named will be expended upon the roads and other public works of the province. So much for local self-covernment.

A MAN SUPPOSED TO BE KILLED BY WILD pATTIjE.-rrMessri Carroll and Campbell, who arrived overland from Wairoa report the following occurrence. A European, name unknown but conjectured to be Miles Hudson, Mr.. Dolbel's overseer,, was riding last Friday in the neighborhood of Waikare in company with two natives, going to Mr. Allen's place. He lagged behind, his horse being tired, and the natives went on. Immediately afterwards, on looking back, they saw him attacked by one out of a mob of wild cattle. On hastening up they saw thu bor&tf embowelled by |he furious apimal, and the ricjer trying tq escape on foot tp the shelter of a bush, He was overtaken, bowever, before he reached it, tossed into the air, and then gored while on the ground. The natives, believing he was dead, and being afraid of being also attacked, then went off. On Saturday Messrs. Allen and Curtis went out in seal oh of the body, but had not returned when our informants left.
Mr. Bookman's Disappearance.—Mr. La Serre returned frrm Waipuna wiihout having been able to discover any trace of the missing gentleman. Scarcely a doubt now remains that he has perished miserably, in the fern or in the bush.
