ANDREWS, Mail Contractor. New Zealand Stud Book. TT is proposed to compile, with a view to -*- publication, a New Zealand Stud Book, which shall contain, as far as can be ascertained, the name and pedigree of every thorough-bred horse impoited into, or bred in the colony. Ths great and increasing interest shown in all the provinces ia the breeding of thorough-bred liorse stock, renders a work of tlie above character highly desirable, as, without it, in a few years the pedigiv.es of many valuable animals will be altogether lost, so that it will be impossible at any future time to certify to the blood of I heir descendants. From the circumstance that, until quite recently, no Stud Book was everpubMished in Aew South Wales, to which colony New Zealand is so largely indebted for its liorse stock, it lias already become diflicu't to trace the pedigrees of many of our supposed thorough-bred horses to the English Stud Book, tlie only recognised authority of a horse's purity of breed. Much, however, may be done by research and inquiiy to clear up doubtful pedigrees if tho task is at once undertaken, but tho longer the work is defeircd the greater will be the liiiiieuhy of ultimate success. As soon as the compilation of the New Zealand Stud Hook is complete, the work will be published, if a sufficient number of subscribers for it can be oh tamed to guarantee tlie expense of printing, and ifc is proposed to publish, in successive years, loose sheets in continuation of the work until* there shall be sufli ieut in Uerials to justify the publication of a second volume, which will then be issued, and the further continuation ofthe New Zealand Stud Book will then become an easy task. Bleeders and owners, resident in New Zealand, of thorough-brod or supposed thorough-nred horses, are requested to furnish the undersigned with all the infoi mation they possess regarding the breeding of the am maid whoso names they wish to see entered in tlie New Zealand Stud Book, which it is intended shall hereafter become tlie test of breeding of horses in this colony in the swme manner in which tlie Stud Book is regarded in England. In oidcr that the foals of the present season may be included m this contemplated volume, tlie woi'k will not ha sent to press until the let of March next, up to which dale communications will bo received but in order tliat the work may in the mean time be prepared, it is hoped that communications will be sent in as early as possible. The price of the woik will be 10s. 6d., which will entitle subscribers to any loose sheets of pedigrees wliich may be published previous to the issue of a second volume. Intending subscribers aro requested to forward their names at their earliest convenience, to C. ELLIOTT, Secretary of Nelson Turf Club. *** The following is given as ft specimen of the information'which it is desirable the compiler should be furnished with, where practicable:— Flora M'lvor, a hrown mare, imported to Nelson by Mr. H.
