WELLINGTON.

(From the Advertiser.)

The ship Golconda, Captain Montgomery, arrived from London on Monday evening last, after a protracted passage of 132 days. She left Giavesend on the 30th January, and has experienced contrary winds and boisterous weather throughout the passage. The Golconda brings 24 passengers, who speak highly of the kindness and able seamanship of Captain Montgomery. Two of the steerage passengers, named Haslop and Burgess, were given into custody on her arrival for having broached cargo. The Golconda is one of Messrs. Shaw, Saville and Go's, line of packets, and is consigned to Messrs. Wm. Bowler. Son and Co. She brings a large general cargo for Wellington, and 250 tons of railway iron for Madras, for which port she sails immediately after discharging her inward cargo. Fire.—We regret to state that a fire has caused the total destruction of the house of Mr. C. Matthews, Wairarapa on Wednesday the 12th. It is not known how the fire originated, there being no person in the house at the time. The building was uninsured, aud the loss to Mr. Matthews may be estimated at about £200, together with a loss of £20 belonging to one of the carpenters, who was absent at work.
