IVOTICE is hereby given that TWO -^ PRIZES for RIFLE SHOOTING will be given by the Provincial Government on the occasion of the competion for the prizes offered by the General Government. The prizes will be in each case a Breach Loading Rifle of the kind patented by Calisher and Terry. 250 rounds of ammunition will be given with each. The first prize will be shot for by the Volunteers and Militia who are eligible, and compete for the prizes given by the General Government. Competitors for this prize, unless they have already sent in their names as competitors for the General Government prizes, must send in their names before the 18th instant to this office. Ihe second prize will be shot for by any persons belonging to the Province of Nelson. Competitors for this prize must send in their names on or before the 23rd instant to this office. In order to save time, the first provincial prize will be given in accordance with the results of the shooting for the prizes given by the General Government. Should, however, the bests shots gain one or more of the latter, it has been arranged with the LieutenantColonel commanding the Nelson regiment, that it shall be optional with them to take either tho General Government prize or that of the Provincial Government; and the other will be given to the competitor who has scored tho next highest number of points. The second prize will be shot for after the conclu sion of the shooting for the prizes last mentioned. All the regulations and arrangements made with reference to the firing for the General Government prizes are to apply to that for the provincial prizes. Rut the 4th Clause of the Rifle Prize Act requiring that no prize shall be given unless a certain degree of proficiency, to be defined by the Superintendent, be attained, it is to be understood that neither of the provincial prizes will be given to any competitor who does not score nine points. The following clauses, of the regulations made by the Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the Nelson regiment have been adopted by the Superintendent, are printed for general information. When all the names are given in, only such a number ot the competitors will be warned to attend as will be able to get through the firing properly in one day. They will be succeeded by a similar number, who will have notice to attend the following day, and so on till the list of competitors is got through. The firing will commence at nine o'clock precisely on each day, and competitors are cautioned to be punctual, as should any one be absent when his name is called, he will forfeit his chance, and a shot be fired in the air, which the marker will score as a miss. After nine o'clock no one will be allowed to go down the track from Bril annia Heights to the practice ground, as the firing will be in that direction. The tiring will take place on the land known as Thompson's Run.
