Wangapeka.—A rumor current last jnreek that some parties had come down from this district with four pounds weight of gold is incorrect. The fact however is encouraging, as we hear that two diggers from Collingwood tried the new country, and were engaged for two or three months in preparations to set-in. Having commenced work, in five days they cleared the whole of the expenses incurred in the beforementioned pielimiuary operations. One man, detained five weeks by wot, worked five days and cleared expenses. . .
Captain Cracroft, R.N—Late Aucklau'd papers say that the gallant Commander of the Niger will not leave New Zealand, aad more particularly Auck and, without some recognition of his important services during the last year's war.
