POLICE COURT.
[Before J. Poynter, Esq., Resident" Magistrate.] Monday, February 25,1861. Disobedience op Lawful CoTjimands.— Charles Bennett, a native of Trieste, seaman?- was charged by Captain W. Morrison, of the brig Sea Nymph, with having on Monday, the 11th February, used threatening language, with a mutinous intent. William Morrison, sworn: I am master of the Sea Nymph, and produce ship's articles, whereby it was shewn that prisoner had shipped on the 30th January, 1861 for six months. ' On Monday, the 11th February I was oh deck, and saw prisoner put his finger in the mate's face, and told him he would use a knife to "him.
John Irvine, mate, sworn: I made the entry referred to in the log. I.told defendant to make the maintopmast staysail fast on the stay. He told me he was going to get his dinner, and that he would see me d—d first; also told me he would make a mark in me with his knife that I should carry to my grave. I made the entry in the log the same day, but did not read it over to the prisoner. !" Sent to jail for 14 days hard labor.
