[From the Marlborough Press.) Annual Licensing Meeting.—Notices of application for publicans' licenses have been deposited at the Resident Magistrate's Office by Messrs. Flaxbouune an td Clakence Dhtbict.—The nomination for this district took piace, on the 7th instant, at the house of Mr. Lovegrove, Flaxbourne. J. D. Tetley, Esq., proposed, and Mr. George Lovegrove seconded, Mr. Joseph Ward as a fit and proper person to represent the district in the Provincial Council. No other candidate baing proposed, the lleturning Officer dec ared Mr. Joseph Ward duly elected. Mr.. Ward briefly thanked the electors present for ths confidence they had reposed in him. Coeoxek's Ikql-est.—An inquest was held on Saturday last at the Marlborough Hotel, Blenheim, l>- 3fore S. Muller, Esq., the Coroner, touching the death of John U'Leary. Mr. William Coliie was cliojcu foreman. The jury returned the following verdict "That the said"JohnO-Leary came to his death by drowning in the Opawa lliver, having fa.len from a boat while in a state of helpless intoxication, and that his de^fc was accidental* and not otherwise."
