The fee per quarter will for the future be Two Pounds, payable in advance, for the ordinary course of instruction, which includes Arithmetic, Writing, Geography, History, Mathematics, Natural Science, and the English, Latin, and Greek Languages. The fee for Drawing, French, and German will be Five Shillings per quarter for each, payable in advance ; but instruction therein will be optional. Admission. Pupils between the ages of nine and twelve, who can read and write with facility, and can practise the first four rules of Arithmetic, are eligible for admission to the lowest, or any other class in the College. Pupils between twelve and thirteen, must be able to go on with the work of the class next above the lowest; and those between thirteen and fourteen must be able to join the next higher class. Exhibition. Six additional exhibitions of the value of £15 each, and tenable for this present year, will be granted, on the day of the re-opening of the College, to those lads who shall prove as to attainment to be the most eligible for admission, and whose parents reside more than four miles from the College. IVTOTICE is hereby given that the followd-^ lowing BY-LAW (extending over the whole of the Town) has been agreed to by the Board op Works, and has been submitted fco the Superintendent and Executive Council of the Province for confirmation :— " If any horse) mule, ass, sheep, swine, or other beast or cattle of any kind shall, at any time after this By-law shall come into operation, be found depasturing, whether under the tendance or control of any person or persons or not, in on upon any street or other highway within the limits of the town of Nelson, or upon the sides of any such street or highway, and whether such street or highway, or any part thereof, shall lead or pass through or over any common or waste or unenclosed ground or not, the the owner of any such horse, mule, ass, sheep, swine, or other beast or cattle shall be deemed and taken to be guilty of a breach of this By-Law, and shall for every such breach forfeit and pay a penalty of not exceeding ten shillings for the first offence, and nofc exceeding forty shillings for the second and every subsequent offence; and in case the name of the owner of any such animal so depasturing as aforesaid cannot be ascertained, such animal maybe driven to the nearest pound, and shall be subject to the enactments of an ordinance passed in session 8 of the Legislative Council of New Zealand, intituled 'An Ordinance to authorise and regulate the Impounding of Cattle' in respect of cattle trespassing upon enclosed lands. But for the purposes of this present By-Law, the term 'owner' shall include any person for the time being having the charge, care, and custody of the animal so depastured as aforesaid."
