RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, January 19. Before the Resident Magistrate. Betts v. Morley.—This was an information laid by A. G. Betts against Gr. Morley, to hind him over to keep the peace. Betts alleged that Morley had used threatening language agaiost him.
The evidence in this case went entirely to disprove the; charge; and the Magistrate dismissed the case, A. G. Betts paying the whole of the costs, amounting to .£lßs. W. Robinson v. W. Matthews—An action to recover £ 20 "upon an acceptance. Defendant did not appear. ■■Judgment - for plaintiff, and costs. ■■■■■>'■■■' ' ' ; Mason v. Marshall.—To recover £1 19s 6d. for board and lodging. Admitted by defendant. Judgment for plaintiff, with costs ; to be paid in a fortnight. '. ' Green v. Turrell.—-A disputed account, settled in Court. .-'.;• . G. F. Bush v. Barton.—A disputed account, BartOD ultimately paying £2 14s. The Same v. E. Lloyd.—To recover .£6 18s. for medical attendance. £1 3s. 6d. admitted by defendant. Ordered to be paid, with 6s. costs. : :. ■
To-night's Meeting.—-We remind the public that this evening, the adjourned meeting, to take into consideration the proceedings of the Board of Works, will be held at the Odd Fellows' Hall, at 7 o'clock, where all who desire something definite with respect to this question should attend. Racing Match. —Early next month a match will be run on the Nelson race course between Captain Newcome's Sally Brass and Mr. Bedwood's Miss Rowe, for £25 a side. ~ We believe, it will come off-a day or two tffter the Nelson Regatta, meeting. • < • The Grove ; Gardens.—On Wednesday' evening a ball took place af Mr. Eppsj Grove Gardens. The attendance was very good, but not more than the attractions warranted. . The band played with unflagging energy till past midnight, and the inspiriting strains were madeavailable by the company for the full enjoyment of dancing in the rural saloon that Mr. Ep'ps' devotes to that purpose. All kitids of refreshments are procurable within the gardens, presenting an amplification of pleasures that appears likely to procure many patrons during the season. On Wednesday next there will be a juyeuile party, and from the promised, preparations, we anticipate a large attendance of juvenile pleasure-seekers. • . ■ ■■ '-
