That on and from the day of the date hereof there shall be within the province of Nelson;- a Port,";to Be balled the Port' of Wairau^the limits whereof shall be as follows: The River Wairau/ including the , Opawa branch, and so far inland as the navigation of the Wairau and the Opawa'respectively extends. ■ "■;?"■>
The Ports of Nelson, Wairau, and Collingwood are appointed Warehousing Ports for the purposes of the Customs Regulation -Act, 1858; and are approved of as Ports for the importation of tobaoco/ ' . /■', .-..,..
The Hon. Christopher William Richmond has been appointed Commissioner of Customs; arid notice is further given that from the let instant the Collectors of Customs will receive their instructions from, and will report to, the said Commissioner. i
The, right bank of the Opawa branch of the river Wairau, commencing from a point six hundred yards below the Police Station, and extending for a distance of one hundred yards, measured down stream, along the bank, has been appointed a legal Quay or Landing-place for the Port of (Wairau.
It is notified-that persons actingas agents in the entrance or clearance of ships, goods, or baggage, or any business relating thereto, at the Port of Nelson, shall be, required to be duly licensed for that purpose.
; A Time Table for the year 1859 of a Monthly Mail Communication between England and Australia, in correspondence with one of the Bombay Mail Services.
The Gazette of January 13th notifies:— The Otago/PastoralDistricts Ordinance, 1858; the Otago Loan Ordinance, 1858; the Auckland ■-Harbor debenture Act\ 1858; and the Auckland City- Debenture Act, have been disallowed by bis Excellency ..the/Governor. . > An. Act to amend'the City and Harbor Endowments "Act, 18j8 ; and the Provincial Council Enlargement Act, ] 858, passed by the Provincial Council of Auckland, have received the assent of his Excellency.
-The Taranaki Fencing Ordinance; .1858; and the Otago Cattle Trespass Ordinance, Appropriation Ordinance No. 1, the Immigration Fund Ordinance,-Leases of Jetty Reserves Ordinance, Jetties and Wharves Ordinance, and Appropriation Ordinance No. 2, have been respectively left to their operation.
Alexander Kerr, Esq., and Thomas Renwick, Esq.-, of Nelson, are gazetted as Auditors of the accounts of the receipts and expenditure of the Nelson College.
From the Gazette of January 14th we learn: —
His Excellency has been pleased to1 appoint Thomas Corinell, Esq., of Nelson, to be Coroner for the District of Nelson. -
The following persons have been appointed Registration Officers, as also Returning Officers, for the election of Members of the" House of Representatives for' the. Elocioiul Districts set opposite their names: —John Sharp. Esq.,.town of Nelson -and Waimea; Stephen LunfT Muller, Esq., Wairau, and Alexander Le Grand Campbell, Esq., Motueka and Massacre Bay..
