Prince of a pup
This four-month-old Pekinese, bred and owned locally, swooped through the Hamilton Kennel Association's championship show last weekend. China Prince of Shinto won five puppy awards. Bred by Mrs B. Salmon, of Taupo, and owned by Mr and Mrs Peter Griffey, the dog began by taking first place in the baby Pekinese puppy section — and ended up the over-
all best baby puppy in show. In between, China Prince was also voted best Pekinese baby puppy, best Pekinese puppy and best toy baby puppy. Mrs Thelma Griffey said this week that China Prince had a busy life of shows ahead of him. The Pekinese is valued at $200. Mrs Griffey said she had few troubles in looking after him.
"He eats much the same as we do," she said. Meat and vegetables, with either vitamin tablets or drops, are his staple diet. But such a prizewinner does have preferences, though. He prefers milk to water, and steak to mutton. Mr and Mrs Griffey regard such smail points as no problem. "He's worth it," they say. 1
