Youth officer for Red Cross is welcomed
Mr G. Marlow, chairman at the monthly meeting of the Taupo Red Cross branch, welcomed the new youth officer, Mrs R. Simons. She reported two visits to Taupo Primary School and other visits were planned to Waipahihi, Hilltop, Tauhara and Hirangi schools. A call at the prisoners' dependents cottage at Turangi was also scheduled. Mrs Simons will attend the youth officers' annual conference at Wellington on August 27. Reporting on the auxilary, Mrs M. W. Iles said ' membership was now 50. July had been a very busy month, with help for a handicapped family, and a member went regularly to hospital to read and amuse the children. Beauty care and the hairdressing service continued as usual. Mrs M. H. Murray reported that the library is as popular as ever with hospital patients, and Mrs Seaton Porter, now in charge of the hospital canteen, said that she has been kept very busy. Mrs M. Oliver, who is now in charge of the voluntary transport, reported weekly visits to the hospital day care centre, two trips to Rotorua Hospital, eleven visits to the physiotherapist at Taupo General Hospital, taking pensioners for hospital visits, several visits to the local physiotherapist assisted by Professional and Bqginess Women's Club mem'bers, and assistance to a crippled child with transport of one case. A report from Mrs O. S. Hintz on' meals on wheels advised that everything way going along smoothl^ Twenty meals were now being delivered during the week and six at weekends. Mrs B. O'Brien, for the clothing section, said that she and her team' had a very busy month outfitting
children and a number of adults. One family of eight was completely outfitted with clothing and bedding was also supplied. One boy, husband, wife and child were supplied with warm clothing, and four days were spent sorting and packing a large quantity of men's garments for the Presbyterian Social Service. Mrs M. R. Bray reported that Mrs E. P. Kelleher would be back in Taupo to take office as secretary by the middle of August. Mr Marlow spoke most warmly of the devoted work of Mrs Bray, and wished her a very happy and well earned holiday overseas.
