Hockey side wins 6-2, with 2 men short

The Taupo men's hockey team had a decisive 6-2 home win against Rotorua High School on Saturday. Taupo dominated play for the first 10 minutes, despite being two players short. Passing by the Rotorua side was good and the ball often went from left to right with its centre forward guiding play. Taupo had no solid defence line, but D. Alexander, who is in great form at centre half and fullback, played well for Taupo. Taupo applied pressure on the right wing and W. Little, at the inside position, scored for Taupo. Several minutes later Taupo again went ahead. Rotorua was penalised for dangerous tackling and R. Nathoo picked up the loose ball and

scored. The combination of T. Dowman [right wing], Little [inside right] and R. Nathoo [centre forward] dominated play for Taupo for the 10 minutes before the interval — and Little scored. The second half produced better hockey. Taupo was hardhitting in the backline and the through passes in the forward line were good. Rotorua was penalised for sfick obstruction and tackling and a corner resulted. Alexander quickly hit the ball out to R. Nathoo, who passed to Taupo's captain, D. Jeffares, who hit the ball into the goal. Taupo was playing well, but Rotorua was also attacking strongly and passing the ball more than Taupo. Taupo's goal-keeper, "j H. Shepherd, in action after missing half of the season, played a solid game. Just before the final whistle Taupo attacked again and goals were scored between Nathoo, Little and Dowman. The final score was Taupo 6, Rotorua 2. The Taupo team was T. Dowman, W. Little, R. Nathoo, K. McMahon, B. Jenkins, D. Alexander, B. Read, D. Jeffares, H. Shepherd. On Saturday the Taupo side will play Saints at Rotorua at 2 p.m.
