Under 10 soccer side maintains
unbeaten record
Taupo's under 10 representative soccer team maintained its unbeaten form on Sunday when it defeated Eastern Bay of Plenty 4-1 in the final round of the Bay of Plenty Sunday regional league. The four representative sides visited Kawerau on Sunday for a series of matches. The under 10 side has now won six and drawn two of its eight representa-
tive games this year. A summary of Sunday' s matches is. — UNDER 10 An excellent all- round performance was given, and it is difficult to find individual stars as the win was a team effort. However, in the forwards Greg Little and Danny Martin possibly had their best games of the season. The backline defence of Gordon Cowie, Grant Treloar and Richard Taling played strongly and gave nothing away. It was well supported by the two goalies used — G. Clunie in the first half and D. Gray in the second half. The other players not mentioned in this report all contributed well to the team's performance, which suggests it could well go through 1974 with its record intact. Score: Eastern B.O.P. 1, Taupo 4. Scorers for Taupo: G. Little, S. Franks, D. Martin, G. Clunie. UNDER 12 Up against strong opposition, this Taupo side played well enough to deserve a better reward than the final result shows. Its forwards came into * the game well after halftime, but could not take the good chances created. Not surprisingly,, the Taupo stars were in the hard-worked defence. Barry Fox and Neil Williamson played well
and goalie John Baker pulled off some brave saves, especially in the first half. Score: Eastern B.O.P. 4, Taupo 0. UNDER 14 Taupo started well in this match but faltered soon after and found itself two goals down at half-
time. However, the team came back in the second half and scored two good goals. Kevin Hurren and Jimmy Keegan played well in the forwards, while Paul Rayner gave a good display in „ goal during the second half. * Score: Eastern B.O.P. 2, Taupo 2. Taupo scorer: Kevin Hurren 2. UNDER 16 Taupo was soon two
goals down in this match but came back with a great header by Kerry Hurren. The fast, strong Kawerau forward line, however, got back to a 3-1 lead soon after. The game was fast and hard and Taupo's Tony Treloar stood out with a good game in defence. The rest of the defence also played well but made vital errors when under pressure. M. James distributed the ball well for Taupo — and the forwards, with a bit more steadiness in front of the goal, could have come closer to victory. Taupo never gave the game away but was decisively beaten. Score: Eastern B.O.P. 5, Taupo 2. Taupo scorers: K. Hurren 1, N. Bergnach 1.
