A verbal slingshot
anyone..
It appears as though David will tackle Goliath when Taupo's debating team meets the Australian side on Thursday night. But as team member Michael Wilson quipped yesterday: "Remember what happened to the Philistines." The Australian team of Mrs Mollie Missen (captain), Robert Hinkley, Jim Coombs and David Krasnostein is a very experienced one. Mollie Missen led the debate against New Zealand at the last Auckland Festival. She describes herself as "a student of politics." She has led the Victorian debating team 12 times and has been leader of the Australian team since its inception in 1966. Mrs Missen is a devastating blend of incisive wit and feminine guile. Robert Hinkley is a former inter-varsity debater who has been a member of four past Victorian teams and two Australian teams.
. Jim Coombs works for the external relations office of the Atomic Energy Commission. He has been a member of six New South Wales representative debating teams. David Krasnostein is a law student from Western Australia and he is, appropriately, billeted with one of the local constables. He, too, has been a
member of State and school teams. The Taupo team consists of Mrs Isa Gaffney, Michael Drake and Michael Wilson. The Australian team will arrive at 2.55 p.m. on Wednesday from Dunedin. Thanks to the help of a considerable number of loeal residents billets have been arranged. The debate will be held at the yacht club.
