Many runners turn out for training jog
In near perfect conditions on Saturday afternoon many runners competed in a series of cross-country events staged by the Taupo Harrier Club. After last week's races the pressure was eased. The first half of each run was taken easily and the second half fast. It was a good short, sharp work-out for most runners. Results were. — Senior fast pack [6000 metres]: Noel Bennett (21m 30s) 1, Bruce McGregor 2. Keith Scandlyn 3. Senior medium pack [6000 metres]: Bernie O'Donnell and Tom McAneney 1 equal. B grade colts [3000 metres]: Allan Attwood 1 , Conway Fleming 2, Allan Beckett 3. A colts [6000 metres]: Keiran Walsh 1. * * * On Sunday the Taupo College harrier team competed against a team from Waiouru Military Camp. This event, over 5300 metres, was strongly contested and resulted in a team win to the older Waiouru boys. Taupo's star was team captain Gary Dryden, who had an endrto-end win. Dryden was in comma'nd from the gun and was never in danger of being headed. Timothy Marshall — a B colf — ran creditably to take sevcnt h place, a fine, steady effort. Results were. — Gary Dryden (Tpo) 20m 15s, 1 ; A. Healey (W) 2, R. Easton (W) 3, Timothy Marshall (Tpo) 7, Ross Climie (Tpo) 8, Keiran Walsh (Tpo) 9.
