Tennis thrill at Wimbledon for Taupo man

Taupo aiid the Wimbledon tennis tournament are a world apart, but there was an association for last week's all-Australian quarter-finai in the women's singles, in which Kerry Melville beat Evonne Goolagong. Miss Melville is a niece of Mr Gordon Melville, of Taupo, who — with his wife — is spending about three months on holiday in Britain. Before he left Taupo about three weeks ago, Mr Melville received advice from an English relative that Miss Melville was trying to arrange admission to the players' gallery for

them. But players' gallery or not, Mr Melville would have spent some time at Wimbledon. Before he migrated to New Zealand some years ago, he was a regular attender at the world's most famous tennis tournament. Other major sporting attractions will also be on Mr Melville's itinerary in Britain. He intends to visit one of the forthcoming cricket tests between England and Pakistan. As a golf enthusiast and a former captain of Kent, the British open at Royal Lytham and St Anne's this week will be "a must".
