Toastmistress club given valuable tips about organisation
Enjoyment of a stimulating and ambitious programme was enhanced by valuable acivice from a highly experienced toastmistress at the June 26 meeting of the Lake Taupo Toastmistress Club. Mae Robson, a member of the Tauranga club and outgoing chairman of Cbuncil 4, concluded the night's programe with some constructive and helpful criticism of the organisation of the meeting and individual performances by members. Two-minute speeches were again required of participants in "table topics" and this second attempt at the exercise showed that if practice hasn't exactly made perfect yet, it has certainly improved performances. Margaret Dimmack conducted "table topics" and the award, presented by evaluators Peggy Geddes and Doreen Gordon, was
won by Joy Alabaster. Two third speeches were given during the evening. Leonie Morine spoke on the causes and cures of suburban neurosis, and was evaluated by Jill Mclsaac. "Reading can be Fun" was the title of Helen Faville's speech, which offered suggestions for making reading aloud an experience enjoyable to both parents and their young listeners. Evaluation of her assignment was given by Gay Bovett.
Pierre La Mure's "Clair v de Lune", a novel based on the life of Debussy, was reviewed by Helen Drysdale -fi as her sixth speech, and 11 A her evaluator, Joan ■■■> Williamson, is now determined to read the book. The time-keeper was Ruth Olsen, and the toastmistress was Ava McLachlan, who kept members arnused between assign- ^ ments with humorous ^ snippets from a toastmaster's handbook.
