But not "army hut" style, pleads society
The Lake Taupo Development and Protection Society is pleased that further pensioner housing is planned for Taupo — but criticises the "army hut" design of the present accommodation in Rifle Range Road. "The need for pensioner housing has been frequently stated and the construction of an old peoples' home is taking an inordinate time," said the society president, Mr P. M. Wilson. "However, surely something more aesthetically attractive than the 'army huts' in Rifle Range Road can be built this time." He said the need for an economic 'structure was acknowledged, but it was no excuse for lack of imagination. "We should make use of
local peoples' opinions and expertise to ensure that these new pensioner flats provide accommodation which is not only adequate but suited to the Taupo environment."
