Wairakei in front

The Taupo Table Tennis Association's inter-club second round is well under way in the A and B grades. The favourites, Wairakei A, is well in front with a good lead as expected. Last Monday night Wairakei defeated MYC by 7-5, with Betty Thompson playing her normal steady games. Borough A is in second position after defeating Wairakei B 8-4. Graeme Penberthy returned to form after his shock loss the week before. Rebels showed excellent form by defeating Freightways 9-3. This result was strengthened by Rebels' doubles performances. The combinations were full of tricks and they were virtually unbeatable. In the B grade, DSIR soundly defeated Plyco B 8-4, United defeated MYC 7-5 after several very clbse, three set matches. In the C grade, Forest D defeated Borough II 7-5, Tutumohutu was soundly beaten 9-3, as was Forest B when it went down to Borough I 10-2. Forest A showed good form to defeat MYC 8-4. The D grade results were as expected, with Borough III having a 9-3 win over Freightways. College B defeated College D 9-3. Wairakei had an 8-4 win over Taupo.
