Senior citizens hit the jackpot

Ten days ago Taupo's senior citizens decided — reluctantly — to appeal to the public for funds for their new clubrooms. They needed another $2000 so that they could apply to the Golden Kiwi grants committee for a subsidy. Today, they have the necessary $17,000. And they are within their June 20 deadline for raising the cash. The Taupo Senior Citi-

zens' Association president, Mr W. S. Hasler, said the club appreciated the response from the public and service clubs who helped fulfil the initial target of $17,000. "Over the last three months our members have really put their shoulders to the wheel as the results have proved," he said. The Kiwi grants committee is to meet on July 18 to consider all applicants. Mr Hasler. said that on behalf of the association he

would like to express sincere thanks to individual donors. Those who donated included the Opportunity Shop, $200; RSA Club, $200; Rotary Club, $200; Lions Club, $200; Kiwanis Club, $200; Jaycees Club, $100; anonymous, $200, and three donations from Mana Marine for sponsored advertisements. The association raised the balance at its fair last week.
