Play will aid citizens, IHC
An arrangement has been reached between four Taupo societies which will beneflt two worthy causes and provide Taupo with two nights of entertainment. The Taupo Dramatic Society's entry in this year's New Zealand Theatre Federation's annual festival, "Black Comedy", is to be performed before the adjudicator on July 19 and 20. The area finals are to be held at Reporoa. Normally, this would mean that Taupo theatregoers and all who enjoy a good laugh would not have the opportunity to see their entry. However, after discussions between the dramatic society, Taupo Rotary Clubr the senior citizens' association and the Intellectually Handicapped Children' s Parents' Association, the play —
supported by Maureenr'Potter's Taupo Ladies' Choir and associated artists — will be presented in the Memorial Hall on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6. Members of Rotary, the senior citizens and I.H.C. have undertaken to sell two tickets each for the show, and the I.H.C. will provide supper. Instead of the usual type of ticket, a programme will be the admission voucher and supper will be free to patrons. The senior citizens and I.H.C. will share the profits of the two-night season. "Black Comedy", by Peter Shaffer, author of "The Public Eye" and "Private Ear", is a comedy. It is being produced by Joanna Bergman, and the cast includes Chris Brettkelly, Jeanette McCulloch, Peace Toone, Tom Hudson, Margaret Jenner, John Bonke and Len Bergman.
