Subsidy target just $400 short
The Taupo Senior Citizens' Association is within $400 of the $17,000 needed to apply for a Golden Kiwi grant for its new clubrooms. In a concentrated showof generosity, Taupo folk have donated $1600 in the past week. ■ The association's president, Mr W. S. Hasler, described the response yesterday as: "Wonderful, simply wonderful." Since the association appealed through the Taupo Times last Tuesday the Opportunity Shop, RSA and Rotary clubs have each donated $200. The association's fair day last Friday raised $1200 — more than covering the $500 members had budgetted for their building fund. Private citizens, many of
whom wish to remain anonymous, have donated amounts up to $50 to the club. "The response indicates that people feel we are playing a worthy part in the town," said Mr Hasler. "However, with all the work ahead of us we do need younger members, particularly men." Mr Hasler said that to attract younger folk the club's joining age had been lowered to 55.
