Plans are stili being finalised for an estimated $46,600 worth of extensions to the Taupo Borough Council offices in Story Place. The borough engineer, Mr W. K. Kiddle, said he did not know when tenders would be called for the work. Application has been made to the Minister of / Lands, Mr Rata, for permission to build part of the extensions on the recreation reserve behind the municipal offices. The major part of the additions will be at the rear of the present building and will include a 2770 square feet area for the Municipal Electricity Department, at a cost of $36,000. A 300 square feet addi- , tion . to the inspectors' offices, costing about $4500, and $4000 worth of alterations to the adminis- ^ tration rooms will make up the rest of the work. Provision is being made for spare office space to accommodate extra staff who may be employed diiring the next five years.
