Work on college site underway
Work has begun on the site of Taupo's t second post primary school in Invergarry Road. At a meeting of the Tauponui-a-Tia College board of governors this week a telegram was received from the Minister of Education, Mr Amos, stating that an environmental clearance had been obtained for the site. - ' The telegram said in , part: "Financial authority has been approved for site clearance and provision made in this year's building 'programme for a start on construction. "Planning now proceeding for establishment of second secondary school to open in 1976." The board decided to write to Mr Amos, thanking him for his efforts. "The vigorous action taken by the board has produced results," said Mr C. E. H. Stocker, the South Auckland Education Board representative. "If we hadn't embarked on this course we wouldn't have achieved anything." The deputy principal, Mr
N. A. Pointon, said he learned at recent discussions in Wellington on the proposed second college that there would b'e no difficulty in having the school ready by December, 1975. "A comment was made at these informal talks that Taupo had used political pressure to push itself over other schools," he said.
